The 80% regression, and the English I went to learn

After Santander I moved to Softtek, a Mexican company, with a clear goal: learn English properly. That is where I started working with Verizon Business on ETMS, and where QTP became my main tool.

Softtek — ETMS global ticketing command center

ETMS: tickets at planetary scale

ETMS is a ticket system. When someone on site has a problem with any kind of device — hardware, an antenna, whatever — they report it there. And it was global, not just the United States: the whole world flowed through that system.

From manual to QTP frameworks

We ran manual tests mostly, at first. Then the need came, and with it the opportunity to use QTP. That was the interesting part: I started using QTP heavily, built frameworks, and we began covering a big chunk of regression with automation.

The 80/20 milestone

We kept growing that regression coverage until we hit 80/20: 80% of the regression covered by automation, leaving only 20% manual, plus whatever the scope brought. Watching that coverage grow with QTP, and seeing it hold, was genuinely satisfying.

Leading a team of five

The project had five people, and I led them. Working for Verizon Business was enriching in ways I still carry with me.
